Stephen Smith, Chair of The Scarborough Hospital (TSH) Board of Directors will continue in his role for the next year. Originally appointed to the Board in June 2008, Smith served as Vice Chair until his selection as Chair in September 2011.
Consistent with the TSH’s Board By-laws, the Board has decided to extend Smith’s term as Chair for a third and final year, concluding in September 2014. Extending Smith’s term will provide needed continuity of governance leadership as the hospital works in partnership with the Central East Local Health Integration Network and Rouge Valley Health System through the directed facilitated integration process.
“I am delighted that Steve agreed to stay on as Chair of the Board. I do know that Steve had been considering stepping down at the end of his current term. However, having an experienced Chair at the helm was essential during this time of change,” said Dr. Jagdish Butany, TSH Board member and Chair of the Director’s Nominating Committee.
“Our hospital has great opportunities before us as we explore how we can work in a much more integrated way with Rouge Valley Health System and other community partners,” said Smith. “I know the entire Board is committed to developing a strong, coordinated and sustainable healthcare system for the residents of Scarborough.”
“The Scarborough Hospital continues to focus on delivering high-quality care for our patients, which has been recognized provincially and nationally. That will continue as well as identifying how we deliver that care in the most cost-effective manner possible and in partnership with other healthcare organizations,” he added.
The Annual General Meeting of the Board will be held on Tuesday, June 25, when Board members will be confirmed for the 2013-2014 fiscal year.
Smith, who is a retired aviation industry executive leader, has extensive experience in leading teams in start-ups, re-vitalizing or transforming businesses, improving profitability and increasing shareholder value. He is recognized for his particular interest in public engagement, customer satisfaction and communications.
