The members of the Expert Panel for The Scarborough Hospital’s (TSH) Maternal Newborn and Women’s Health and Surgical Models Review will now receive delegations on Friday, May 31 from 7:45 am ‐9:00 pm, an additional four hours than previously planned, to ensure that as many people as possible can participate.

The Expert Panel, which is comprised of physician and nursing leaders from peer hospitals and a local community leader, has been put in place in response to the Central East Local Health Integration Network’s (Central East LHIN) Board of Directors motion of March 27, 2013, which called upon TSH to convene to review the proposed consolidation of Maternal Newborn services at the Birchmount campus and the consolidation of same day/short stay surgery at Birchmount with more complex surgeries with overnight stays at the General campus.

Based on feedback and documentation provided to date, along with deputations collected as part of this process, the Expert Panel will develop a report to address the concerns and risks identified by stakeholders. The report will be forwarded to the Central East LHIN Board of Directors at their meeting on Monday, June 24, and it will inform the integration planning underway between The Scarborough Hospital and the Rouge Valley Health System.

    The panel members are:

    Dr. R. Blair Egerdie, Surgeon
    Dr. Paul Ellis, Emergency Department
    Dr. Lennox Huang, Paediatrician
    Dr. Craig Irish, Anesthesiologist
    Dr. Nicholas A. Leyland, Obstetrician
    Bobbi Soderstrom, Midwife
    Silvie Crawford, RN
    Odette Maharaj, Community Leader.

The panel members will receive pre‐registered delegations on Friday, May 31, from 7:45 am ‐9:00 pm, at the Scarborough Civic Centre. Individuals who want to be received as a delegation must pre‐register by eMail ( or telephone (416‐438‐2911, Ext 6770). Delegations will be allotted 10 minutes to present and must provide a document to the panel. Details are posted to TSH’s website at click on Expert Panel Review.
