The Scarborough Hospital (TSH) has welcomed three new community agency partners to its Global Community Resource Centre. These new partners will work with other community organizations and TSH staff to provide patients, families and visitors access to health and community information in Scarborough.
“We’re excited to have the Alzheimer’s Society of Toronto, Goodwill Employment Services and the Hong Fook Connecting Health Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic join the Global Community Resource Centre,” said Waheeda Rahman, Director, Organization Development and Diversity Office at The Scarborough Hospital.
“Each of these three new agencies brings a different ‘lens’ in helping us empower visitors to the Centre with increased health literacy and better access to community services.”
Launched in June 2012, the Global Community Resource Centre, located at the hospital’s General campus, is an interactive drop-in Centre offering access to reliable health and community information in a variety of formats. The three new agencies join 11 others who staff a ‘Community Desk’ on a rotating basis at the Centre.
These agencies, along with TSH staff, also provide workshops on a wide range of topics that may be of interest to the community. Workshops are held every second and fourth Wednesday of the month at the Centre from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. They are free and no registration is required. The Centre itself is open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
More information about the Global Community Resource Centre, including a monthly schedule for the Community Desk and workshops, is available on the TSH website.
