No matter if you are a newcomer to Canada or have lived here all your life, finding the right health and community services where and when you need them can be challenging. On August 26, The Scarborough Hospital is teaming up with a number of its partners and hosting a free health fair with information on where to find these essential resources right here in Scarborough.
“The Scarborough Hospital is proud to be part of a community with so many outstanding services and supports for its residents,” said Waheeda Rahman, Director, Organizational Development and Diversity at The Scarborough Hospital.
“By hosting this health fair, we hope to bring about better awareness and empower our residents with information about what is available in their community, as well as patients’ rights and obligations in accessing health care services.”
The health fair will feature presentations on ‘what to do and where to go’ to find the appropriate health and community services according to patients’ needs. In addition, the hospital and a number of community representatives will have displays and be available to answer questions. Advanced registration is not required and everyone is welcome.
The health fair is being held at The Scarborough Hospital’s “Global Community Resource Centre” at the General campus. The only place of its kind among hospitals in the Greater Toronto Area, the Global Community Resource Centre offers patients, staff and the community access to free, multilingual health and community information.
Fourteen community agencies in Scarborough are partners with the Global Community Resource Centre. These community agencies help to deliver workshops on a wide range of topics twice a month, and staff a “Community Desk”, which provides information and referrals, on a rotating basis.
