Dr. Nina Venka with patient Sarah Normore.

Positive relationship with TSH continues after six decades

After 93 years of living, Scarborough resident Sarah Normore has seen her share of medical professionals. But when a recent health emergency brought her in contact with Dr. Nina Venka, Obstetrician/Gynecologist, Sarah was compelled to share her story of the exceptional care she received under Dr. Venka and TSH’s staff.

A resident of Scarborough since 1955, the Newfoundland native says she has had a long and positive relationship with TSH. Meeting Dr. Venka was simply the icing on the cake.

“The first time I saw Dr. Venka, I liked her. I had a lot of confidence in her,” Sarah explains. “The second time I met her, I thought she was wonderful. By the time I went into the operating room, I didn’t have a care in the world. She told me what to expect, and I felt comfortable with that.

“I have come to love her dearly.”

They are heartfelt sentiments from a woman who says she’s had a lot of good doctors over the years, “but Dr. Venka is by far the best.”

“The success of this surgery depended on many individuals,” says Dr. Venka, who has practiced at TSH for 12 years. “Assistance from Drs. John Oyston and Catherine Owen in this particular case was instrumental in my patient’s excellent surgical outcome.”

Not content to share the compliment with just two colleagues, Dr. Venka raves about the people at TSH.

“The management of the OR is extremely efficient. The staff is hard working and completely focused on completing all surgeries in a timely manner. Our cases are almost never cancelled.”

She also points to the excellent skills and outstanding critical care provided by TSH’s anesthesia department, and adds “our patients’ post-op period is covered by exceptional CCRT and ICU back-up.”

“Our hospital is exceptional in that we are always willing to help one another,” Dr. Venka adds. “I feel privileged to be part of the happy outcomes involved in my specialty, and I get a great deal of satisfaction in promoting women’s health.”

A mother of a six-year old daughter, Dr. Venka’s other off-work passions include singing and playing piano. (She played Rizzo in last year’s production of Grease.)
