Dr. Eric Hurowitz

You wouldn’t think that being on the receiving end of a colonoscopy would prompt patients to write complimentary letters, but that’s exactly what Dr. Eric Hurowitz receives on a regular basis. Most recently, a patient wrote a letter describing the “wonderful caring I received from (Dr. Hurowitz).”

A gastroenterologist practicing at the Grace campus since 1987, Dr. Hurowitz says his chosen specialty is perfect “for the internist who is a frustrated surgeon.”

“It’s a good specialty that combines being able to think with doing things with my hands. There are quick results and immediate rewards from the things I do with my hands using telescopes and other technology, and I also get to sit behind a desk and listen to people’s stories,” Dr. Hurowitz explains.

Dr. Hurowitz is also reminded of his first clinical instructor who stressed that “whenever you come to work, you have to put aside everything else that happens in your life. Whatever happens at home, whatever you’re upset about, put it aside because the patient is the one with the problem, not you.

“I didn’t really understand what he meant at the time, but now that I’m married, with three kids, and everything else that goes on in one’s life, I do understand what he was talking about.”
