Join Chef Joshna Maharaj as she produces mouth-watering dishes using top quality produce, meat, cheese and pantry staples straight from local Ontario farmers.
The food is being supplied by the Ontario Artisan Share (OAS) program. The OAS is a partnership between 100km Foods Inc., a local food distribution company, and the all-Ontario gourmet retailer Culinarium. The OAS is similar to a traditional Community Shared Agriculture (CSA) model, where one invests upfront and receives a share of the bounty a farm produces throughout the growing season.
This summer, staff at The Scarborough Hospital have had the opportunity to purchase OAS memberships and receive their very own diverse basket of Ontario harvest and pantry staples delivered directly to the hospital each week.
Toronto-based Chef Joshna Maharaj is well known for preparing diverse, wholesome recipes that are accessible and uncomplicated. Joshna has worked as a freelance chef and writer, and has regular guest appearances on CBC TV’s Steven & Chris show. She is also a member of Slow Food Canada, and is constantly engaged in ideas about a truly sustainable food system and culture. Joshna is currently working with The Scarborough Hospital on the organization’s exciting project to introduce more local, fresh and conventionally cooked foods into patient meals.
