The Scarborough Hospital’s new West Wing Art Gallery is currently exhibiting the work of visual art students from Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts. These young artists are part of Wexford’s Special Series Art Program, a dynamic visual arts program that expands the talents of aspiring art students through courses in Life Drawing, Painting, Sculpture/Ceramics, Media Arts and more.
This is the first exhibit since the Gallery’s opening in September 2009 to showcase the work of high school students. Images of the works can be viewed on The Scarborough Hospital’s Facebook page.
“We are so pleased to have the opportunity to exhibit at The Scarborough Hospital Gallery,” says Tami Fujimoto, Wexford Collegiate art teacher. “Many of our students express stories or personal memories through their art - their inspirations come from many places. Our artwork in the TSH Gallery displays a variety and showcases the talent of our students as a whole.”
The TSH Gallery exhibitions showcase the artistic and historic work of various interest groups within the community. Last fall, TSH featured art from the Art Guild of Scarborough.
“The support and involvement from our community can make a difference to the work we do here in many different ways,” says Dr. John Wright, President and CEO of The Scarborough Hospital. “We embrace opportunities that will have a positive impact on the people that walk through our hallways every day.”
The Wexford art pieces will be displayed in the Gallery for the months of February and March. “Showcasing the extraordinary talents of local artists brightens our hospital, and the lives of the patients and visitors who can enjoy the work,” adds Dr. Wright.
