The Scarborough Hospital (TSH) Sexual Assault Care Centre and Domestic Violence Program is located at the Birchmount campus and provides medical attention and emotional support to teenage and adult victims of sexual assault. Immediate attention from specially trained nurses and physicians is available 24 hours daily through the Emergency Department, to respond to the sensitive emotional and medical needs of the assaulted person. Counsellors are available through the Centre for crisis of longer term counseling.
Testing and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy prevention can be provided up to three day following the assault. If the person chooses, forensic evidence can also be obtained by the medical team for police.
For more information on this program, visit our website at www.sacc.to, designed and produced by a dedicated team of student volunteers from L’Amoreaux Collegiate in Scarborough.
