This past summer, The Scarborough Hospital launched an exciting new project to improve patient satisfaction with food at our General campus by adding more fresh, local food cooked from scratch to inpatient meals.
From the very beginning, sharing our story during this transition with other Ontario hospitals and my counterparts who run the patient food services departments has been an integral part of our plan.
So today, I am pleased to provide you with the first of our monthly enewsletters that will document our challenges and successes as we work to implement one of the biggest changes to the Nutrition and Food Services department that I have seen in my 27 years with the hospital.
We’re calling our project ReFRESHing our Menu for a variety of reasons. In addition to the new elements of the program, we’re also working to re-establish the hospital’s great reputation for patient food that won it rave reviews in local newspapers over 20 years ago. And we’re capitalizing on the strength of our exceptional food services team who has managed to continue to prepare good food from scratch as much as possible despite dwindling resources.
I invite you to peruse the stories in our enewsletter and find out more about our project partners. You can also subscribe to our Transforming TSH blog to learn about the many ways The Scarborough Hospital is transforming and innovating the patient experience, not only in Food Services, but also in other important areas, such as Patient Relations, Diversity and Emergency Care.
And most importantly, I encourage your feedback about ReFRESHing our Menu. Please feel free to email me at sbull@tsh.to.
Sincerely,
Susan Bull, Manager, Nutrition and Food Services, General campus
