  • Pre-operative testing (blood work and electrocardiograms)
  • Pre-operative education and assessment by a registered nurse
  • Non-invasive diagnostic imaging
  • MRSA/VRE screening, for infection control
  • Medical and anaesthetic consultations (General campus only)
  • Anaesthetic consultations (Birchmount campus only)
  • Consultation with a social worker, if required

At the Birchmount campus, the surgical pre-admission program is mandatory for all patients scheduled to undergo surgery. Appointments are available at two locations: one on-site at the hospital, the other in a nearby medical building.

To help increase access for all first-time total hip and knee joint replacement patients, TSH has joined the Total Joint Network (TJN). TJN has developed a Greater Toronto Area-wide standard of care to help simplify the transition from hospital surgery and rehabilitation, to care at home supported by community care organizations. For more information, please visit: www.myjointreplacement.ca
