1. How do I become a volunteer at TSH?
2. What do I bring to the Volunteer Information Session?
- When attending an information session, please bring the names, mailing or e-mail addresses and phone numbers of two people who support your interest in participating in this volunteer program (relatives not accepted). We will mail/e-mail a reference form to each of your references, requesting that it be completed and sent back to us. E-mail is preferred.
- We always appreciate it when this information can be typed and handed in on a separate piece of paper.
3. May I choose where I would like to volunteer?
- Of course, we have many different areas in which volunteers are involved. We try to accommodate all of our volunteers placement preferences whenever possible. We encourage you to remain in the same placement for 3 months, but if you desire, a placement change can be arranged.
- Most volunteer opportunities are available Monday – Friday from 8 am – 5 pm. There are limited opportunities available in the evening and on weekends.
4. Will my volunteer experience be helpful as a reference for future employment?
- Yes, it can be extremely beneficial in certain job markets.
- You are entitled to a reference letter after volunteering for a period of six months or 40 hours.
5. What happens if I am sick or going on holidays?
- If you are sick, we ask that you contact us as soon as possible to ensure that a replacement can be found to cover your designated area.
- If you are going on holidays, we require a minimum of two weeks notice to ensure that volunteer coverage is arranged for during your absence.
- If you are continually missing shifts, we will ask that you resign from your volunteer duties.
6. How many volunteers help out at TSH?
- We have over 700 volunteers assisting in many areas throughout the hospital. Each volunteer participates a minimum of four hours per week.
