Donna Pritchard recently had knee surgery at our Centenary site. She wrote us a wonderful letter, as she didn’t want her experience with our “amazing” hospital to go without mention. Here is what she shared with us:
I recently had day surgery at your Centenary site and from the moment I arrived until the moment I left, my experience was amazing. Dr. Luba was my surgeon and he too is amazing!
I arrived two hours in advance of my surgery time. I self-registered (which is really cool and efficient) and then waited with my beeper in hand. During my wait, the lovely lady at the registration desk in the middle of the waiting room came over and asked me if I would like a warm blanket – I guess I appeared to be cold … The offer was very much appreciated and that is definitely differentiating client care and demonstrating the hospitals concern for its patients.
My beeper went off and the registration nurse was waiting at the door for me – just as I was told at time of self-registering. She was very pleasant, recorded/validated all my information, took all my vitals and told me exactly what she was doing every step of the way. I was then hooked up with an IV (which by the way I was a little nervous about however this nurse knew what she was doing because I could barely feel it – thank you for that) and was ready to go into the surgery waiting room. The nurse was extremely personable, very professional and made me feel at ease. She went as far as making room for my husband to sit directly beside me in the surgery waiting room, which truly was above and beyond my
Then Dr. Luba himself came into the waiting room, called my name and explained to my husband and I exactly what he was planning to do, creating a comfortable atmosphere and minimizing the anxiety. I then said good bye to my husband and followed Dr. Luba to the operating room. On the way, Dr. Luba introduced me to the anesthetist and the operating room nurses – all of whom took extremely good care of me. The operating room nurse told me everything she was doing and why she was doing it. From hooking me up to the monitors, taking my blood pressure, putting on a tourniquet etc., she kept me informed every step of the way. The anesthetist was also very personable. He introduced himself, asked if I have ever had any reactions to anesthetic before and told me the anesthetic they use now has been enhanced and hopefully I would not experience vomiting as I had in the past. He also administered some anti-nausea medication to prevent nausea – and it worked! Thanks for that.
After my surgery, I woke up in the recovery room to a very pleasant nurse who asked if she could get me something to drink. That was wonderful because I was parched and the ginger ale was delicious! The recovery room nurse as well was very informative. She stayed by my side constantly monitoring my blood pressure, keeping me advised of what it was and monitoring my pain and administering pain medication as necessary based on my pain level. As a result of the personal attention and monitoring I have to say the pain was minimal and the attention was very much appreciated.
Dr. Luba personally checked on my progress on two separate occasions while I was in recovery – now that is definitely client care at its best!
All in all, I had an amazing experience at your hospital. I really hope I do not have to undergo any further surgery any time soon however if I do, I know which hospital I would like it performed at. Please extend my appreciation to all of your wonderful staff who took such good care of me during my knee surgery at the Centenary site. Thanks so much!
