Providing a safe environment while ensuring our patients receive a positive experience at The Scarborough Hospital (TSH) is our top priority. Our Visiting Policy strives to provide family members and visitors with appropriate access to their loved ones, while maintaining the health care needs of our patients.

  • Regular visiting hours are 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. daily.
  • Only two visitors per patient at a time are permitted.
  • Children 12 years and under must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times.

Exceptions To Visiting Hours

Visiting hours may be extended for compassionate reasons or may be restricted for medical or emergency situations. All exceptions and restrictions are at the discretion of the nursing staff.

The following departments have special visiting hours:

Critical Care Centre / Emergency

  • Loved ones are welcome to visit at any time, however, visits may be restricted for medical or emergency situations
  • All exceptions and restrictions are made at the discretion of the nursing staff

Inpatient Mental Health

  • Visiting hours are from 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • Children 12-years-old and younger must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times
  • All exceptions and restrictions are made at the discretion of the nursing staff

Outpatient Clinics and Day Surgery

  • One adult may accompany a patient for scheduled appointments, tests, outpatient procedures or treatments
  • Two adults may accompany a paediatric patient for scheduled appointments, tests, outpatient procedures or treatments
  • Children 12-years-old and younger should not accompany an adult patient as staff are not available to supervise them while the patient’s test or treatment is in process

Maternal Newborn and Child Care / Obstetrics

General campus Maternal Newborn and Child Care/ Obstetrics

  • Visiting hours are from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. daily
  • Father/partner may visit from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily
  • Siblings are permitted for short visits during designated hours and must be accompanied by the father/guardian or grandparent

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

  • Visiting hours are from 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. daily with the permission of a parent
  • There is no time restriction for parents
  • Limit of two visitors at a time, accompanied  by or with permission from the parents

Paediatrics

  • Parents or guardians may visit from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. daily
  • One parent or guardian may stay overnight with the child

Birchmount campus Maternal Newborn and Child Care / Obstetrics

  • Visiting hours are from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. daily
  • Father/partner may visit from 8:30 a.m. to10 p.m. daily

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

  • No visits from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. and again from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • There is no time restriction for parents (except for the above)
  • Extended family may visit from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. (except for the above)
  • Limit of two visitors at a time, accompanied by or with permission from the parents
  • Children under the age of 14 are not permitted unless he/she is the sibling

Paediatrics

  • Parents may visit any time
  • One parent or guardian may stay overnight with the child
  • Other guests may visit from 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
