I Support My Scarborough Hospital”. It’s a belief held by those both within and outside of our hospital walls. It’s now also the name of an important, new fundraising campaign by The Scarborough Hospital Foundation.
“‘I Support My Scarborough Hospital’ is a multi-faceted campaign that will use a variety of innovative approaches, in addition to more traditional fundraising methods,” says Michael Mazza, President and CEO of the Foundation.
One of these novel initiatives is a new community loyalty program. This program will urge local businesses to donate within their means and in turn, the Foundation will help promote these businesses to its donors. It will also encourage individual donors to shop at those businesses and reward them with great deals and promotions for doing so.
“The loyalty program strengthens the emotional connection people have to their community, as well as to their hospital,” adds Michael.
“I Support My Scarborough Hospital” will also receive support from the Foundation’s Philanthropic Councils launched earlier this year. The Philanthropic Councils allow specific community groups to express what they want in their hospital and to benefit the hospital with their fundraising spirit. Already, there are councils (at different stages) for Chinese and South Asian communities, as well as women and young professionals. Another community council is open to anyone who doesn’t identify with one of the other councils and is also diverse in its makeup.
The Maternal Newborn and Child Care (MNCC) program at the Birchmount campus will be the first area to benefit from donations to the “I Support My Scarborough Hospital” campaign, with funds raised going towards an overall plan to improve the site’s facilities and equipment.
“Revitalizing the MNCC program’s physical space at the Birchmount campus will allow us to maintain the expected level of excellence and build on our already impressive results,” says Dr. Nathan Roth, Co-Medical Director of Obstetrics at The Scarborough Hospital (TSH).
“A new baby is a life-changing experience,” adds Dr. Georgina Wilcock, Co-Medical Director of Obstetrics at TSH. “Through this community support, we’re not only building a stronger hospital, but also stronger families.”
In support of her great passion, Dr. Wilcock has launched a fundraising challenge to all staff, physicians and volunteers to make a donation of any amount towards TSH’s MNCC program. She, in turn, will match these donations – dollar for dollar – up to a maximum of $50,000.
