The Scarborough Hospital (TSH) Board of Directors welcomes the Expert Panel announced today by Dr. Eric Hoskins, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC). The hospitals in Scarborough and Durham provide world-class care for their respective communities. Consistent with Ontario’s Action Plan for Health Care, TSH is engaged in transformational, collaborative change necessary to ensure sustainability while maintaining appropriate access to patient services.

Earlier today, Minister Hoskins announced the creation of an Expert Panel that will address and make recommendations to the MOHLTC regarding infrastructure needs, as well as improving access and integration of acute health care services in the Scarborough and west Durham region.

“If we are to be successful in improving access to hospital services for the Scarborough community, then investing in hospital infrastructure is of paramount importance,” said Janet Dalicandro, Chair, TSH Board of Directors. “We thank Minister Hoskins for his leadership in establishing an independent, objective process that will create a short- and long-term road map for world-class hospital services in Scarborough.”

“Modernizing our facilities will ensure we can continue to provide accessible, high quality care for the Scarborough community. We look forward to working with the Expert Panel in exploring the optimal solutions for our community,” said Robert Biron, President and CEO, TSH. “The Scarborough community deserves a similar level of access as other GTA communities enjoy to a range of core and specialized patient services that are delivered close to home.”

The Expert Panel is expected to commence its work in the near future and have their recommendations completed within six months.

For further information on the Expert Panel, including the names and biographies of the Panel, please refer to the MOHLTC news release.
