TSH was honoured to receive the 2012 Uthayan Inter-Communal Relationship Award at the annual Uthayan International Awards Festival on March 18. This award is given to an eminent person or a group who has demonstrated an understanding of the aspirations of the Tamil Canadian Community and has served as a role model in the promotion of this inter-communal relationship.
“Each and every one of us at The Scarborough Hospital is committed to the tenets of our Vision: to be recognized as Canada’s leader in providing the best healthcare for a global community. This award speaks volumes about the many initiatives we have introduced in recent years to engage our diverse community,” said Dr. John Wright, President and CEO of The Scarborough Hospital.
Some of these initiatives have included having a full-time Tamil speaking interpreter on staff, and translating much of our signage and public literature into the Tamil language.
“Our healthcare providers, as well as our staff and volunteers, represent a wide cross section of the more than 100 different cultures that we serve in Scarborough,” explains Dr. Wright.
“We consider ourselves fortunate to serve such a rich and diverse community with which we enjoy an open dialogue.”
