They say that helping others is the best way to achieve your dreams and goals. Just as The Scarborough Hospital’s (TSH) Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO) committee leans on seasoned organizations to help them achieve the hospital’s own BPSO designate status in 2018, the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario (RNAO) arranged an opportunity for TSH to mentor other organizations that are working towards the same goal.
On March 26, 2016, members of TSH’s BPSO committee, led by Kim Brophy, welcomed health care professionals from Beijing University of Chinese Medicine’s School of Nursing and Dongzhimen Hospital. The group learned about TSH’s first-year experience as a BPSO candidate by examining initiatives, measurements, and key milestones.
In a thank-you note to Kim and the BPSO team, Irmajean Bajnok, Director of RNAO’s Best Practice Guidelines Program said, “In the debrief sessions, the delegation spoke highly of the visit and were particularly impressed to learn from you in relation to your first year as a BPSO candidate, your accomplishments to date, and how you were planning BPG implementation and evaluation over the next year. We [at the RNAO] were very pleased and proud that we could call upon you to help provide mentoring support to our international BPSOs.”
