Research at The Scarborough Hospital (TSH) is an undertaking intended to extend knowledge through disciplined inquiry and systematic investigation that complies with the Canadian Tri-Council Policy Statement for Conducting Research in Humans (TCPS2).
The Research Office supports innovative health research that is done by our staff and physicians and collaborates in health research initiatives with other organizations. TSH’s staff and physicians lead and participate in health research initiatives aimed at providing the best quality of care to our patients.
All research studies/projects and their respective agreements, where applicable, are coordinated and managed through TSH’s Research Administrative Office. This office also provides additional assistance and direction to all researchers and study staff.
All research projects involving TSH must obtain ethical approval from the TSH Research Ethics Board (REB). The TSH REB is responsible, on behalf of the hospital for ensuring that all research involving human participants under the auspices of The Scarborough Hospital meets current ethical standards.
Please find below the TSH REB Application Package Template. General information regarding submission information can be found on pages 3 – 8 and a document checklist on page 9. The Confidentiality Agreement (pages 18-19) can be printed separately.

Due to the volume of studies received at TSH and the time required to prepare them for review by the REB, researchers are now asked to submit all material for review per the schedule below in order for the study to be considered at the next REB meeting.
- The REB meeting dates are subject to change without notice. It is the investigator’s responsibility to continue checking the website prior to submission or calling the REB office in advance.
- Study protocols submitted to REB are subject to considerations for reviews.
