    The Board of Directors of The Scarborough Hospital (TSH) has approved the constituting documents that would come into effect should the proposed merger with Rouge Valley Health System (RVHS) proceed. The TSH Board’s approvals are the latest in a series of steps toward merging the two hospital corporations, which remains contingent on a number of funding requests from government and ultimately subject to approval by the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care.

    Among the items that received approval by the TSH Board of Directors at its Tuesday meeting were key documents for the new proposed merged hospital corporation including: amalgamation agreement; letters patent; administrative bylaw; and professional staff bylaw.

    “This is an important milestone as we progress through the various stages of the proposed merger with RVHS. It reaffirms our commitment to proceeding with the proposed merger, with a focus on improving health care and putting patients first,” said Stephen Smith, Chair, TSH Board of Directors. “We look forward to continuing our collaborative work with RVHS and to our upcoming Special Meeting of our Annual Members – another significant milestone in our process.”

    Both TSH and RVHS have strong track records of providing high quality, effective care to our patients, and the two hospitals are committed to finding ways to continue to delivering excellent care at a time when health care delivery is changing. Together, TSH and RVHS are working to create an integrated system that:

    • meets the health care needs of our growing and aging community;
    • provides appropriate local access to care;
    • delivers an outstanding experience for our patients and their caregivers; and,
    • uses our resources efficiently so that our local health care services are available today AND into the future.

    TSH Special Board Meeting

    TSH Board’s decision to proceed with the proposed merger is contingent on the resolution of funding requests from government to address unavoidable merger costs and capital planning grants for facilities renewal.

    The Hospital Board’s final decision is scheduled to take place at a special public Board meeting on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. at the TSH Birchmount campus, Irene Stickland Centre.
