Effective Monday, June 9, the Family Maternity Centres (FMCs) at both campuses of The Scarborough Hospital (TSH) will be offering offering point of sale (POS) debit and credit card payments to patients and family members for supplies not covered by provincial health insurance.

“We’re excited to be able to offer this service in our FMCs,” said Sandra Essex, Director of Financial Services. “Patients and family members will no longer have to make a trip to the cash office to pay for supplies prior to receiving them.”

POS payment by debit or credit card will be offered in the FMCs for the following supplies:

    • Electric breast pumps
    • Double breast pump kits
    • Protective blue pads for mattresses
    • Sanitary napkins
    • Diapers

Debit and credit card payments are also currently available in both of the hospital’s Emergency Departments. Over the next several months, POS payment will be introduced across the hospital in areas where patients frequently purchase supplies and receive services not covered by provincial health insurance.
