The enthusiastic Regional Cardiovascular Rehabilitation Program team members will be going the extra mile – and more – at the 2017 Walk with Heart.
Each spring, staff team up with patients to raise funds to support the program and improve care. The 2017 walk has some special surprises in store for the Scarborough and Oshawa events.
The goal of the 2017 Walk with Heart is for 800 people to participate between walks in Scarborough and Oshawa on back-to-back weekends and to raise $125,000. These funds will help the program continue to provide quality exercise testing, local exercise and education classes, and multidisciplinary team services in our community. Organizers expect to reach their goal with the help of the volunteers, friends and families of the Rehabilitation Program, based out of Scarborough and Rouge Hospital’s Centenary site, serving communities from Peterborough to Cobourg, including all of Durham Region and east Toronto.
Walk with Heart is a two-part event. The Oshawa walk takes over the Oshawa Civic Dome on May 27, and the Scarborough walkers will enjoy a new location, the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre, on June 3. Registration on both days starts at 8:30 a.m.
As with previous Walk with Heart events, the organizers and enthusiastic staff of the program have a fun-filled morning lined up for each day, with music, entertaining challenges for the physicians and staff, and a number of other fun surprises planned. Refreshments are provided and there will be local celebrities and a number of demonstrations, raffles and much more.
Walkers are encouraged to sign up to fundraise and if you cannot participate, you can support a walker by making a safe and secure online donation at www.walkwithheart.ca.
